Vulcan County has a diverse land base with many opportunities for development that still allows for the protection of irreplaceable agricultural lands.  Part 17 of the Municipal Government Act of Alberta is the provincial law that provides the framework within which development is to occur.  Part of that framework includes local planning documents that direct specific development.  The County’s planning documents include a Municipal Development Plan, a Land-Use Bylaw and a number of Area Structure Plans focusing on specific areas within the County.  The Land-Use Bylaw is the most referred to document as it provides the land designations and the types of development that are either permitted or discretionary for all lands in the County
